Aleksander Emelianenko has announced that he will be fighting in Chicago on April 11th. There is no official word yet on who his opponent will be, but according to Emelianenko, he will likely face top heavyweight contender Josh Barnett.
Sources close to M-1 have confirmed that they are currently in discussions with Barnett and that this fight is a possibility. Sources have also stated that a fight for Fedor Emelianenko on the same card is not yet a certainty. We’ll have more as soon as anything becomes official.
Emelianenko, brother of Fedor Emelianenko, last fought at Hardcore Championship Fighting: Tital Wave on October 19, 2007, defeating Dan Bobish via submission with a Guillotine Choke in the first round.
Barnett’s last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at PRIDE Shockwave 2006 on December 31, 2006.
