Matt Serra is confident that he will be able to get back into the cage vs. Georges St. Pierre by April at UFC 83. Serra suffered a debilitating back injury in early December that forced him out of a title match with Matt Hughes. St. Pierre filled in for Serra and promptly made light work of Hughes.
Now Serra, who K.O.’d St. Pierre last April At UFC 69, may have to face the pride of Canada in his own back yard as UFC 83 appears set to take place in Montreal, Canada. Serra didn’t appear concerned however.
“I’m definitely up for that,” he told The Canadian Press in an interview. I’ve got to be realistic. I don’t know what they’re going to do,” Serra said. “I feel like I’m friendly with everybody but business is business and who knows? I know they like Georges, it’s not that they don’t like me but I don’t know. He might be more of a better poster boy. Who knows?”
“Now he’s back in full force,” Serra continued. “And now he’s back into this MMA god that people hype him up to be. And I don’t mean that disrespectfully because I really like Georges. I do. I think he’s tough as hell. But it’s the same thing I said before. Nobody’s invincible. I take no offence at people in Canada yelling for me to die,”
Serra also seems to want to settle his score with Matt Hughes somewhere down the line.
“Too much has been done for us not to go at it, me and that guy,” said Serra.
