More MMA stars going Hollywood and writing books

Add Rich Franklin to the list of popular MMA fighters acting. Franklin is filming a movie titled Weapon, which is currently being filmed in Hamilton, Ontario and also stars Tiffani Thiessen (Beverly Hills 90210).

Franklin joins a growing list of MMA fighters who are exploring opportunities in Hollywood.

As has been reported here, Tito Ortiz will be a contestant on next season’s The Apprentice on NBC.

Also on NBC, Forrest Griffin recently had a guest role on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Griffin appeared in the first 15 minutes of the episode as an aggressive MMA Champion suspected for a murder, who is later wrongly killed by the victim’s father.

Meanwhile, Randy Couture’s Hollywood duties keep increasing by the day. In addition to the sequel to The Scorpion King, in which he plays the lead, Couture also appeared in an episode of the CBS’s The Unit in late October, where he reprised his role as Sgt. Strickland. Couture has also signed to star in supporting roles in Redbelt, which stars Tim Allen, and Big Stan, which stars and is directed by comedian Rob Schneider. Both those films have MMA themes and will be releasing in 2008.

Other MMA fighters starring in feature films include Frank Shamrock in The Red Canvas, releasing in 2008, and brother Ken Shamrock starring in Never Submit, slated for a 2009 release.

MMA is looking to take over the literary world as well. In addition to the Matt Hughes book that we reported earlier today (for the full story, click here), Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz all have autobiographies scheduled to come out in 2008 with major publishers.
