Film Review: MMA Veteran Keith Jardine Shines In “John Wick”

Keith Jardine

Keith Jardine has been developing his acting skills over the past several years, and it all paid off with a role in the hit blockbuster “John Wick.”

Jardine plays Kuzma in the film, which stars Keanu Reeves as the lead character, John Wick. Wick is is a former assassin who gets jumped and beaten by youngsters. That brings him out of retirement and into the world of New York City’s playground of bullets and more.

Along with Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, Willem Dafoe and, one of my all-time favorites, John Lequizamo, appear in the film as key characters.

The Blu-Ray combo pack, which is set for release February 3, includes several special features such as “Don’t (Expletive) With John Wick,” “Calling in the Cavalry,” “Destiny of a Collective” and “Assassin’s Code.” It runs 101 minutes long and racked up $73.6 million at the box office.

Prior to the release, most experts slotted the film in the $7-8 million range for opening weekend, but it doubled that at just over 2,500 locations. Fans were quick to see exactly what I saw upon viewing it: a fast-paced, in-your-face action thriller.

The plot left itself open to future movies, which Reeves is very accustom to thanks to his run as the main character in “The Matrix” series.

As for Jardine, who last fought in 2012, this film goes alongside a resume that includes roles in “Breaking Bad,” “Crank: High Voltage” and “Inherent Vice.”

John Wick was directed by Chad Stahelski, produced by David Leitch and written by Derek Kolstad.
