Six months after allegedly being stabbed and shot by her husband, Professional boxer Christy Martin is claiming that her fight with Dakota Stone on June 4th was stopped because of sex discrimination. Martin suffered a broken right hand in the bout. ESPN has the scoop.
Martin’s appeal is being heard Monday by the California State Athletic Commission in Los Angeles.
Her attorney, Gloria Allred, claims that a fight involving a male boxer in similar circumstances would not have been stopped and that officials acted on a misguided notion of female lack of toughness or a greater need to protect female fighters.
