Fabricio Werdum is the frontrunner for the next UFC heavyweight title shot against Cain Velasquez. While nothing is confirmed, Werdum is already seeing a fight where both men keep the action standing.
“It won’t be a slow-paced fight,” said Werdum to MMA Fighting. “I won’t let him do that clinch game with me. I expect an exciting fight standing and on the ground.”
Werdum is 17-5 and rides three wins since returning to the UFC. Earlier in the year he submitted Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Velasquez took the trilogy win over Junior dos Santos at Saturday’s UFC 166. It was the second time he’s defended the bet.
The UFC is yet to make Werdum-Velasquez official.
