Don’t get Fabricio Werdum wrong.
The UFC heavyweight wants his shot at the title, he just prefers it come against Junior dos Santos.
Werdum’s first run in the promotion ended after a loss to dos Santos. “Cigano” will challenge for the belt this month against Cain Velasquez at UFC 166.
For Werdum, sitting on the sidelines and awaiting his crack at the belt allows him to play dream matchmaker, as he told MMA Fighting recently.
“Nothing against ‘Cigano’, but I want this rematch,” Werdum stated. “I thought I was the man at that time. I want to fight him again not because of him, but to prove to myself that I can beat him when I do things right.
“I believe everybody sees this fight like I do. ‘Cigano’ has a great chance to knock him out in the first two rounds. After that, Velasquez’s cardio is excellent for a heavyweight.”
Dos Santos and Velasquez have split their two previous meetings, with the UFC title changing hands each time.
