Fabio Maldonado did enough – at least in the eyes of the judges – to score a split decision victory over Joey Beltran Wednesday night at UFC Fight Night 29.
With the win, Maldonado (20-6) earned his first win in Sao Paulo since 2010. The Brazilian was born in nearby Sorocaba.
“I haven’t fought here in years,” Maldonado said. “I am pleased to have the opportunity.”
Maldonado picked up a second straight victory, as he also defeated Roger Hollett earlier this year. The recent string of wins comes on the heels of a three-bout losing skid.
“I don’t think I came as close as I wanted to finish,” he said, “but it was better than my last fight.
“I don’t know how one judge gave it to Beltran.”
