After taking a pair of wins this year, Fabio Maldonado wants a step up in competition. Obvious choices for the light heavyweight include Chael Sonnen and James Te Huna.
“I would like to fight Chael Sonnen, who I’m a big fan of, or James Te Huna, who is a great striker,” said Maldonado to MMA Fighting. “Many people think that Chael Sonnen is a bad match-up for me, that he would take me down, but I believe I could beat him. And against Te Huna, I’m a better striker and I can do well against him.”
Both are currently booked. Sonnen takes on Rashad Evans and Te Huana has Maurício “Shogun” Rua.
Maldonado got a split-decision over Joey Beltran at UFC Fight Night 29 to go 20-6. He’s finished a solid portion of his fights and has no return date.
