Erik Koch and his days as featherweight could be coming to an end. His manager Mike Roberts believes a move up to lightweight is on the horizon.
“I think a move to 155 is pretty likely,” said Roberts to Bleacher Report. “That cut for Erik is horrible. It’s worse for anybody I’ve ever seen other than when James Irvin cut to 185. It’s literally taxing on his body. Erik is lean at 170 pounds walking around, and I just think the cut is a little bit too much for him.”
When the WEC closed, Koch joined the UFC and took two wins in 2011. The year 2012 wasn’t as nice, with Koch having to pullout of a featherweight championship bout. He returned this year with defeats to Ricardo Lamas and most recently to Dustin Poirier at UFC 164.
Koch is 2-2 for the UFC and waiting on word about a return.
