Emanuel Newton isn’t certain where the anger from Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal is coming from, but it’s probably all about hype. In a recent interview, Lawal unleashed a flurry of “F bombs” when describing Newton.
“I’ve never said anything bad about this man,” said Newton on The MMA Hour. “Anything that I’ve said, it’s been relevant and true. I said he’s cocky. He is cocky. I said he’s arrogant. He is arrogant. I said he’s a self-proclaimed king. He is a self-proclaimed king.”
The fact that Newton shocked many by knocking Lawal out cold could be a reason for the heighted tension. In the semifinals of the Season 8 light heavyweight tournament, Newton used a spinning backfist before winning the whole thing.
Lawal won the 2013 Summer Series, with a pair of stoppages. He joined Bellator as a former Strikeforce champion.
The rematch will be for the interim light heavyweight title at Bellator 106. It’s from the Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, CA. Catch them on Spike TV with a 9 p.m. ET start time.
