Eurasion Fight Nights president Kamil Gadzhiev knows how important it was to secure the rights to promote a fight with Fedor Emelianenko.
Gadzhiev also knows that joining up with UFC Fight Pass to broadcast EFN cards was equally as big a deal.
This coming Friday, Emelianenko will square off with Fabio Maldonado in the main event of EFN 50: Saint Petersburg. The card airs at 11 a.m. ET and also includes Vitaly Minakov taking on Peter Graham.
“The Fight Pass broadcast allows us to significantly increase the number of viewers (we have) worldwide,” Gadzhiev told FightLine in an exclusive interview. “Another question (is) are our tournaments popular among the global audience? Now, with Fedor’s participation in EFN, the answer will be ‘yes.’
“I am already happy that we were able to bring under the banner of EFN one of the brightest and most famous fighters in history (with Emelianenko).”
This marks the first bout for “The Last Emperor” since he ended an almost three-year-retirement last December with a first round finish of Jaideep Singh. Overall, Emelianenko (35-4) has won four straight.
However, Gadzhiev is interested in seeing how he stacks up against Maldonado, who has tested himself several times against the best of the best. The 36-year-old Brazilian is 22-9 in his career, including five wins with the UFC.
