It’s On: Eddie Alvarez Defends Against Conor McGregor At UFC 205

ufc 205

Conor McGregor has talked about making history.

Now, he has the chance.

McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, challenges Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205. The bout was confirmed by UFC president Dana White late Monday night on ESPN.

Set for November 12, the card takes place from Madison Square Garden and marks the first UFC event since New York legalized MMA. Along with Alvarez-McGregor, Tyron Woodley defends his welterweight title vs. Stephen Thompson and Karolina Kowalkiewicz challenges Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the strawweight belt.

McGregor would become just the third UFC fighter in history to be a multi-division champion, but the first to hold two titles at once. BJ Penn and Randy Couture are the others, and Penn had a chance to win the welterweight belt while holding the lightweight title, but fell to Georges St-Pierre.

Alvarez, the first fighter to be a champion in both the UFC and Bellator, won the belt earlier this year when he finished Rafael dos Anjos. He immediately called for a matchup with McGregor, who has not fought at lightweight since competing in Cage Warriors.
