Dustin Poirier was upset by Diego Brandao’s inability to cut weight for their featherweight contest at UFC 168 Saturday night.
Poirier took that anger out on Brandao, finishing the Brazilian with a flurry of punches late in the first round for his second straight win.
“Words can’t explain (how happy I am),” Poirier said. “I busted my ass for this. I got up on days I felt like I couldn’t move.”
Poirier (15-3) is now 3-2 in his last five, including a win over Erik Koch. He also tied Chad Mendes with seven UFC featherweight victories, a division record.
“I knew I would win tonight,” he added. “You would have had to kill me (to defeat me).
“I am just living the dream right now, riding the wave.”
Brandao (18-9) initially weighed in at 153 pounds Friday before cutting down to 151.5. He forfeited a percentage of his fight purse to both Poirier and the Nevada Athletic Commission.
