Dustin Poirier Shines Like A Diamond In Return To Lightweight

ufc fight night 63

For Dustin Poirier, the decision to move back to lightweight was one that came with a lot of questions.

“The Diamond” answered all of those Saturday at UFC Fight Night 63, flooring Carlos Diego Ferreira and earning his 17th career victory.

Poirier dropped Ferreira early in the first, but he was unable to capitalize. The second time around, the former featherweight contender did get the finish, nearly knocking the Texas-native out completely.

“This week was enjoyable for the first time in a long while,” he said. “I feel good. This is my house.

“I probably should have been at lightweight for a long time now. My body feels great.”

For Poirier (17-4), the win was his first since a three-fight win streak that stretched over 2013 and 2014. He lost last September to Conor McGregor, prompting the decision to go back to 155 pounds.

After destroying Ferreira, Poirier mentioned wanting to fight on the upcoming New Orleans card, and matchmaker Joe Silva told him that he has an open spot for him.

Ferreira suffered his first loss inside the Octagon, falling to 11-2 in his career.
