Dustin Poirier Believes He’ll “Outclass” Michael Johnson Everywhere

Dustin Poirier is very confident going into UFC Fight Night 94 and his main event bout with Michael Johnson.

Following his decision to move to lightweight after a 2014 loss to Conor McGregor, “The Diamond” has been perfect, besting four straight opponents. Included in that run are three finishes over Bobby Green, Yancy Medeiros and Carlos Diego Ferreira, along with a decision vs. Joseph Duffy.

Despite being well-prepared, Poirier knows he’s in for a challenge vs. Johnson.

“He’s a strong-willed fighter. He sticks to the game plan and executes. I don’t think he’s great anywhere – I’ll outclass him everywhere,” he said during an appearance on UFC Tonight recently. “This fight’s 25 minutes, so I’m not going to put myself in a dangerous position to look for the takedown. If this fight hits the mat, he’s getting tapped.”

From everything that Poirier has felt, the decision to move to lightweight has been a great one.

“My training camps are smoother. Everyday life is smoother. I used to dread training camps and felt run down half way through,” he said. “Ten pounds isn’t much, but when you train every day carrying less body fat, I felt like I was carrying bumps and bruises more.”
