The Ohio Athletic Commission approved a fight license for Phil “CM Punk” Brooks on his pro wrestling experience, according to a report by MMAjunkie.
OAC executive director Bernie Profato told the site that the situation with Punk was similar to one with Brock Lesnar. Punk meets Mickey Gall Saturday at UFC 203 in Cleveland.
“We felt this was no different than, basically, the Brock Lesnar situation, when they let him fight in the UFC,” Profato said of the former UFC heavyweight champion and NCAA Division I national wrestling champion. “We have confidence in the matchmaking of the UFC. It looks like a competitive fight.”
Gall has just two pro fights under his belt, including one in the UFC.
The OAC typically requires five fights by a competitor to be licensed.
