Derrick Lewis overcame seven takedowns to score a split decision victory over Roy Nelson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 90 Thursday night.
Nelson dominated the ground game, but it was Lewis who scored several big-time shots throughout the 15-minute battle.
Despite the win, which was his fourth straight since last October, Lewis wants to test his skills vs. “Big Country” once again.
“I want a rematch with Roy Nelson,” he said. “I promised a finish. It is what it is.”
Since a 2015 loss to Shawn Jordan, Lewis (16-4) has picked up three finishes vs. Gabriel Gonzaga, Damian Grabowski and Viktor Pesta to go along with the win over Nelson, a former Ultimate Fighter winner.
“I have the heart of a champion,” Lewis said.
