Derek Brunson Justifies Ranking With Stoppage Of Sam Alvey

ufc fight night 73

Derek Brunson showed fans that he deserves to be ranked inside the UFC’s Top-15, scoring a first round finish of Sam Alvey Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 73.

Brunson (14-3) improved to 5-1 in his last six, losing only to Yoel Romero via third round TKO in early 2014. He’s stopped Brian Houston, Ed Herman and now Alvey among his latest wins.

“I had a long camp and worked hard,” he said. “I want to put on a show and keep getting better.

“Sam’s a tough guy to gauge, but I believe in hard work and got it done.”

After dropping back-to-back fights outside the UFC to Kendall Grove and top contender Ronaldo “Jacare’ Souza, Brunson signed with the UFC and promptly bested Chris Leben.

Brunson said he plans to take time off and celebrate with his two kids before returning to the Octagon.
