UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson had two fights left on his current UFC deal.
But when officials presented him with a new, eight-fight contract, “Mighty Mouse” saw no reason to not sign.
Johnson confirmed the deal during a Monday appearance on “The MMA Hour.”
“I think when fighters do that (fight out their contracts), they want to see what they’re worth, but at the same time, if they negotiate with the UFC, and they get what they like, there’s no point going and testing free agency,” Johnson said (thanks to MMAFighting.com for transcribing). “And the thing is, even Rampage Jackson said it before, nobody treats you better than the UFC.”
Johnson, who is coming off a finish of Henry Cejudo to earn his eighth consecutive title defense, added that the new deal allows him to do “great things in the future.”
