Darren Elkins Scores Ninth Octagon Victory In Ireland

ufc fight night 76

Darren Elkins continued his string of alternating wins and losses, dominating Robert Whiteford Saturday at UFC Fight Night 76.

Using his wrestling, Elkins was able to withstand the striking of Whiteford and earn his ninth career win inside the Octagon.

“I knew he had the big shot and I was looking for that,” Elkins said. “He hit me with that and I (stayed) standing, coming forward. I think that gasses people real quick when they hit me and I throw mine and keep coming forward.”

Ahead of the Whiteford bout, Elkins (19-5) headed to California for training with Team Alpha Male. He credited the camp with improving “the little things.”

“I added the next level,” he said. “Transitions, footwork, angles; the little things.

“Overall, my game is good, but I am trying to tighten it up.”

Elkins had pushed his way into the upper-echelon of featherweights in 2013, but a first round TKO loss to Chad Mendes forced him to regroup. He’s gone 3-2 since, falling via decision to Jeremy Stephens and Hacran Dias.

“I want another tough opponent,” Elkins said. “Somebody that will bring me back in the Top-10.”
