Who really knows if UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was just trying to have fun, or poke fun at Daniel Cormier via Twitter Sunday.
Jones made mention of the fact that he is “in Dagestan right now with a small army as my security team. Borderline nervous, it’s a while different world over here.” The pound-for-pound champion is in Russia touring the country at the moment.
He continued, remarking, “With that being said I love these people. Their hospitality is first class nothing but hugs and smiles eating so much I’ll look like DC soon.”
Well, Cormier responded, posting “it’s much easier to talk when you know there’s two fights separating us. Keep running (your) mouth kid! Jon u can’t beat me!”
Cormier added in reply to a fan thinking he was “pulling a Chael Sonnen” by stating “he started (it). Sneak attacking on Twitter. Didn’t even mention me. He uses my initials. So weak.”
Jones is set to defend his title vs. Glover Teixeira next year, with a rematch vs. Alexander Gustafsson scheduled after that should both win. Cormier is on his way to 205 pounds after an undefeated run in the heavyweight division.
