UFC president Dana White doesn’t have final say on where fighters decide to compete, but he does offer a pretty vocal push.
During an appearance on the UFC 202 post-fight show on FOX Sports 1 Saturday night, White stated that he believes welterweight and not lightweight is the place for Donald Cerrone to remain.
“Cowboy” has won three straight at 170 pounds after losing to Rafael dos Anjos for the title last year.
“I don’t like (155 for Cerrone),” White said. “He looked amazing at 170. He’s on a roll. Nobody does that to (Rick) Story.
“Cowboy looks good at 170 and I’d like to see him stay there.”
Cerrone did complete his current UFC contract with the finish of Story, but has indicated he wishes to remain in the promotion and not test free agency.
