Dan Henderson will get his chance to take the pace car around the track at Phoenix International Raceway in March, as he has been tabbed the official driver for the 500.

The event takes place March 15 and the 44-year-old former champion will drive the car around for a lap before releasing the field to compete.

“I’m excited to get behind the wheel and pull out onto the track at Phoenix International Raceway and help start the 500,” Henderson said. “NASCAR drivers are the best in the world at what they do, and I can’t wait to see them in my rear view mirror just before they take the green flag. It’s a great honor and it’s going to be a huge thrill.”

Henderson competed in the 1992 and ’96 Summer Olympics and is a former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion.
