The UFC has stripped Germaine de Randamie of the featherweight title and will crown a new champion at UFC 214 when Cris Cyborg meets Megan Anderson.
The bout between former Invicta FC featherweight champions will serve as the co-main event for the July 29 event in Anaheim that features Daniel Cormier defending his light heavyweight title vs. Jon Jones.
“UFC has informed Germaine de Randamie and her management team that she is being removed as the women’s featherweight champion due to her unwillingness to fight the No. 1 ranked contender, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino,” the promotion announced. “Subsequently, top contender Justino will face newly signed Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson for the UFC women’s featherweight title in the co-main event of UFC 214.”
Cyborg (17-1) forfeited her Invicta FC title after moving to the UFC, allowing Anderson (8-2) to first claim the interim belt before being crowned champion.
