Cortney Casey’s sixth career win was the biggest yet, as the female strawweight submitted Top-15 fighter Randa Markos at UFC 202 Saturday night.
After the two exchanged transitions, it was Casey finding an opening to lock in an armbar and get the verbal submission.
“We practiced that over and over again,” said Casey, who trains with her husband. “I had to be patient and it was transition, transition.”
Casey has earned all six of her wins in the first round, including two inside the Octagon. Earlier this year, she stopped Cristina Stanciu via strikes after losing her first two UFC bouts via decision to Seo Hee Ham and Joanne Calderwood.
“I am always happy to be in here win or lose,” she said. “As long as the fans are happy, Dana (White) is happy and the owners are happy.”
