John Kavanagh, the head coach for Straight Blast Gym, believes Conor McGregor’s next fight will be announced in the coming days.
Reports have circulated that McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, will face Nate Diaz once again at welterweight. The bout would serve as the main event for UFC 200 in July.
“I believe it is going to be announced this week,” Kavanagh told Britain’s Daily Star.
McGregor was scheduled to meet lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196, but a foot injury knocked dos Anjos out. Diaz stepped in and earned a second round submission victory.
Many have asked for McGregor to defend his belt against Frankie Edgar or Jose Aldo, but all signs point to Diaz once again.
“Whoever it is there will be a group of fans that will go, ‘Oh, I didn’t want to see that, I wanted to see this,'” Kavanagh said. “The truth is when it is all said and done, fast forward three or four years when he is wrapping up his career, everybody will have been met.
“All styles will have been beaten.”
