Nate Diaz will step in on less than two weeks notice and face Conor McGregor at UFC 196, UFC president Dana White confirmed Tuesday night.
Set for March 5 from Las Vegas, Diaz replaces lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian bowed out due to a foot injury earlier in the day.
McGregor, the UFC featherweight champion, and Diaz will still hold the marquee billing over female bantamweight champion Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate.
The Irish McGregor was looking to become the first-ever two-division champion at the same time with the UFC in facing dos Anjos.
