Cheick Kongo was the bigger man in his recent fight with Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, but the UFC veteran couldn’t solve Lawal’s wrestling skills.
Lawal claimed a victory at Bellator 134, dropping Kongo to 22-10-2 in his career and 4-2 with Bellator.
He posted his thoughts on Facebook, detailing what went wrong in the fight and offering congratulations to Lawal:
You know, my fight took place last Friday. This fight, it was within my reach on paper, this fight, I lost on points, by split decision. A fight where I could express myself as I wanted, I know now that I made mistakes that cost me dearly in due course. King Mo, my opponent made the best of them and applied a game plan that led him to victory. He deserves it. Congratulations to him. It is also that MMA, nothing is taken for granted, we must constantly challenge themselves, renew, go beyond its own limits …. And stand up when things do not turn not as they had planned. This is a man standing talking to you tonight. A defeat not enough to put me down. It’s head high I’ll take the road that I traced there some years. It’s a long winding road, and each of the obstacles that I encounter serves to gauge my faith and determination. I do not forget where I come from, I know where I’m going, and this trip, I want to continue to prepare and do it with you. To my family, my brothers (and sisters) weapons, and to you my friends with all my heart, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
