There are plenty of new faces joining the UFC, but keeping a job is the difficult part. Chael Sonnen, a veteran of the sport, looks at the list of new fighters and thinks Conor McGregor is something special.
“I think Conor McGregor has been extremely refreshing because he’s just a real guy,” said Sonnen to MMA Mania. “You ask him a question and you get a real answer. He’s not gonna hold back and he understands we’re in the fight business. It’s okay. We don’t have to pretend we’re something we’re not. His genuineness comes through, and it’s very easy to get on board with a guy like that.”
McGregor came to the UFC as a duel champion for Cage Warriors. He’s taken a pair of wins before suffering an ACL injury, which will keep him out of action until next year. He earned Knockout of the Night for finishing Marcus Brimage in just over a minute and a decision from Max Holloway. The ACL injury occurred during the Holloway win.
Sonnen meets Rashad Evans at UFC 167, but “The American Gangster” seems more focused on calling out Wanderlei Silva. They have no fight scheduled though nearly came to blows a few weeks back. It all started when Sonnen was being disrespectful to Silva and his country of Brazil.
