A lot is riding on tonight’s UFC on FOX 21 main event bout for Carlos Condit.
The former interim UFC welterweight champion will headline the Vancouver card against Demian Maia.
After going 25 minutes with then-champion Robbie Lawler in a “Fight of the Year” candidate in January, Condit thought about retirement. He also thought about why he deserved an immediate rematch, as he explained on “UFC Tonight” earlier this week.
“I’ve been at this for a long time and I got to look at some other things I can do to make a living. I can’t fight forever. But I still have a little bit of time left. I love what I do, so I decided to give it a little more time,” he said. “I didn’t get the shot, but I still want to fight and I feel a win over Maia puts me right back in title contention.
“I felt like I deserved it after the Lawler fight. To beat a guy who’s on a run like Maia has been on, would get me the shot.”
The main card airs live on FOX at 8 p.m. ET.
