Carlos Condit Returns With Dominating Performance Vs. Thiago Alves

ufc fight night 67

Carlos Condit made a triumphant return to the Octagon Saturday night, finishing Thiago Alves in the main event of UFC Fight Night 67 Saturday night.

Condit, a former interim UFC welterweight champion, spent a year on the sidelines recovering from knee surgery. He lost to Tyron Woodley last March and left the fight with a torn ACL and MCL.

Following a nasty first round between the two, Condit (30-8) connected with an elbow that broke the nose of Alves. After the Brazilian survived, the doctor decided he could not continue and called a stoppage to the contest.

“I have nothing but respect for Thiago Alves, he’s a guy I have looked up to in this sport for years and it was an honor to fight him,” Condit said. “After the feeling out process, I started thinking about the things we worked on. One of the first things we worked on really, really worked (the elbow).”

Following a decision win over Nick Diaz in 2012 that earned the former WEC champion the interim belt, Condit lost to Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks via decision. He rebounded in 2013 with a TKO over Martin Kampmann before the loss to Woodley.

As for what could be next, Condit didn’t specifically call out anyone. He does hold a win over No. 1 contender Rory MacDonald, who will fight for the belt later this year.

“Whoever,” he said. “I just want a good fight. Somebody who is exciting and somebody the fans are excited to watch me fight.

“Whoever, whatever.”
