Canelo Alvarez landed a hard body shot, stopping Liam Smith and winning the WBO middleweight title Saturday night.
The bout was the main event of on HBO pay-per-view from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Alvarez improved to 48-1-1 with the win, earning his sixth consecutive victory since a loss to Floyd Mayweather. He also holds The Ring, lineal and WBC middleweight titles.
The card also featured Willie Monroe, Jr. winning a decision over Gabriel Rosado, claiming the WBO intercontinental crown. Joseph Diaz, Jr. remained unbeaten with a ninth round TKO of Andrew Cancio and the 22-year-old cousin of Oscar De La Hoya, Diego De La Hoya, defeated Luis Orlando Del Valle.
