The Bulgarian Federation of Mixed Martial Arts is the latest member to the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the IMMAF announced recently.
The BFMMA was elected as the national federation to represent Bulgaria in the IMMAF and meets the criteria of being a non-profit, democratic organization. The BFMMA was established in 2013 by 10 MMA clubs and is led by Stanislav Nedkov.
“We’re extremely happy to be accepted as an IMMAF member and we’re sure that through our mutual efforts and through that of all IMMAF members, we will lead the sport of MMA to becoming the number one combat sport in Bulgaria, Europe and the world,” said Nedkov, who last fought in 2013 for the UFC.
The BFMMA has applied for formal recognition by the Ministry of Sport in Bulgaria and is in the process of becoming recognized.
“We are very pleased to welcome Bulgaria into the IMMAF fold,” IMMAF Secretary General Erika Mattsson said. “The movement towards voluntary regulation is making waves world over, and in each of these countries we see the MMA communities coming together at grass roots level; dedicating their own time, passion and hard work to making the sport they love safer and to protect its participants. The BFMMA have made impressive achievements already and the IMMAF looks forward to lending its support and working in partnership with the Bulgarian federation as they move towards official government recognition.”
