Rousimar Palhares earned a much-needed victory Wednesday night at UFC Fight Night 29 over Mike Pierce.
Palhares, making his welterweight debut, locked in a heel hook and earned the win.
However, what seemed to make more headlines was Palhares not releasing the hold right away as Pierce tapped.
Several fighters sounded off on the move by Palhares, who has been questioned about this in the past.
“Loved the submission that Toquihno hit on Pierce but don’t like the way he held it,” Kenny Florian posted, who was announcing the fight. “Has a history of that. Gets too excited out there.”
Brian Stann, working the FOX Sports 1 table, posted “This is a sport of professionals, when someone taps, let go…period. Ridiculous how many times this guy has done this.”
“Dude that should be a DQ,” Justin Buchholz wrote, “that was blatant & not his first offense. That’s worse then punching after the bell and K.O.’ing someone.”
