According to Spencer Lazara, the return of Stefan Struve is off, as the UFC heavyweight fainted in the locker room just hours before his fight with Matt Mitrione at UFC 175 Saturday night.
“Struve just fainted in locker room,” Lazara posted on Twitter. “Fight is scratched.”
Struve was found to have a leaking aortic valve and enlarged heart, forcing him to undergo surgery and miss several months of action. He appeared healthy throughout the week and during weigh-ins on Friday.
UFC president Dana White, working the “SportsCenter” Twitter account, confirmed the news, posting, “Stefan Struve blacked out in the locker room. He has elevated heart rate and is out of the fight. I’d never risk his health.”
Later in the night, Struve posted a message on Twitter to update his fans, writing, “Just want to let everybody know I’m ok, had a blackout in the locker room and we had to call the fight off, thanks for the love folks!”
