Despite having the arena behind him, Brandon Thatch was unable to come out with the win Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 60.
Thatch suffered his first loss since 2008, as Benson Henderson submitted him in the fourth round.
“He’s a class act,” Thatch said. “I was really hoping to bring it home for my town.”
After dealing with injuries, Thatch (11-2) was returning to the Octagon for the first time since November 2013 when eh knocked out Paulo Thiago. He also earned a first round TKO over Justin Edwards.
The only other loss for Thatch came to Brandon Magana via split decision in Strikeforce. All of his other bouts were first round finishes.
In the early portion of the fight, Thatch appeared to be well on his way to a victory. He hurt Henderson with shots to the body and more heavy strikes, but by the championship rounds, his face was bruised and he was breathing heavily.
“I’ll be back,” he said.
