When the UFC visits Brazil, the crowd is vocal and always cheering for the home country fighters. American Brandon Thatch heard the crowd boo and used the energy to submit their own Paulo Thiago.
“This is the most intense crowd I’ve ever fought in front of,” said Thatch to MMA Fighting. “It was crazy and exciting at the same time. Even if the energy was negative, I made it work for me. I just pretended they were cheering for me.”
The win makes Thatch 2-0 for the UFC. He turned pro about five years ago and joined the UFC this past August.
Brazil’s Thiago has fought for the UFC 11 times, losing 6 of those contests. He’s 1-3 since 2012.
They were on the main card of UFC Fight Night 32 on November 9.
