“In The Blood,” Starring Gina Carano, Movie Review

Gina Carano

Gina Carano remains on the cusp of returning to the cage, as she continues having contract discussions with the UFC.

However, today, Carano’s film, “In the Blood,” will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD. The movie stars Carano, along with Danny Trejo, Treat Williams and Luiz Guzman. I was provided an advanced copy to review for FightLine.

Carano’s character, Ava, is recently married. During the honeymoon, her husband, played by Cam Gigandet, goes missing and the ex-Strikeforce star is thrust into action. The blame for the disappearance is first placed on Ava, who must act as her own police detective to find out the truth.

Still young in her acting career, Carano shows marked improvement over her roles in “Fast and Furious 6″ and “Haywire.” She can obviously handle the action sequences with ease thanks to her exceptional MMA background, but she also doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to the dialogue in the film.

Having veterans like Trejo and Guzman on board sure makes it easier, as they know what it takes and deliver strong performances in their respective roles. Trejo just has that perfect “bad guy” look to him and you can’t help but root for Carano because of her breath-taking beauty.

Another great casting was that of Casey, played by Stephen Lang, who you likely remember from the “Avatar” movie. Lang’s demeanor makes him an excellent choice for the role he portrays.

The action, crime, thriller runs just over 100 minutes and was directed by John Stockwell, who has also released such films as “Turistas,” “Blue Crush” and the TV movie “Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden.” It was written by James Robert Johnston and Bennett Yellin.
