BJ Penn Issues Challenge To Mike Dolce, Nik Lentz

Former UFC champion BJ Penn is currently retired.

However, the proud Hawaiian would end that retirement if famed trainer Mike Dolce brought one of his pupils inside the Octagon to face him.

Appearing on Wednesday night’s edition of “UFC Tonight,” Penn stated that he would like to fight Lentz at featherweight. The 36-year-old retired after a third straight loss to Frankie Edgar in 2014.

“I’m sick and tired of hearing about Mike Dolce,” Penn said. “I’ll put a challenge out right now: You go get Nik Lentz, your boy, bring him down to 145 and I’ll run right through him in one round and then I’ll find you in the back and smash you.

“If Dolce says I don’t train, let’s do this. I would come out for this. Some things were said, got heated. I worked with him for 20 days and paid him $1,000 a day. I’m sick of hearing that.”

Ahead of making his return to the Octagon and facing Edgar, Penn enlisted the help of Dolce to get his weight down. After, the two sides engaged in verbal warfare against one another.

Instead of training, Penn has spent time doing the “taro farms. The Hawaiians love the poi; I love the poi” he said.

As for that possible Lentz contest, Penn would like for it to be back at featherweight to prove a point.

“At 145. Let’s do this,” he said. “That was my last fight. I had a bad showing. I’m ready for something like this. I haven’t been in a gym for two years. I’ll come back for the grudge match, then we’ll see.”
