Ben Rothwell did his best Clay Guida impersonation in the third round of his UFC 164 contest with Brandon Vera Saturday night, mimicking the featherweight fighter and storming after Vera.
Rothwell, who has alternated wins and losses in his last nine fights, proceeded to call out Travis Browne after his 33rd career victory.
“Let me fight Travis Browne,” he screamed, after asking Joe Rogan if he wanted to see a fight filled with replays.
Rothwell (33-9) has split his last six UFC bouts, while Browne is coming off a finish of Alistair Overeem.
The Wisconsin native gave the Bradley Center something to get excited about, shifting his feet quickly for a heavyweight and firing off a series of lefts and rights at Vera, who was making his return to heavyweight. He dropped “The Truth” and pounced, forcing Herb Dean to call for the bell.
“I am here to give the fans what they came to see,” Rothwell said. “When I see blood, it’s pretty heavy and I’m gonna come after you.”
