Ben Rothwell Believes He’s The Next UFC Heavyweight Title-Contender

ufc fight night 68

It’s hard to argue with the resume of Ben Rothwell, who added a first round submission win over Matt Mitrione to his record Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 68.

After a mini feeling out period, Rothwell (35-9) locked up a smooth choke off a defended takedown, forcing Mitrione to tap with both hands.

Rothwell has won three in a row, including a first round finish over former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem, since a 2013 loss to Gabriel Gonzaga. He is 5-3 in the Octagon.

“I am something completely different,” Rothwell said. “The only fight that matters to me now is the No. 1 contender (fight). I know not a man on this planet can stop me in this Octagon.

“Only politics can stop me.”

Rothwell let out an evil laugh after his comment, but he made his mark with his 13th career submission win and 33rd finish.

“Actions speak louder than words,” Rothwell said.

Rothwell has already faced Cain Velasquez, losing to the current UFC champion in 2009 via second round TKO. He’s also faced the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Mark Hunt, Ricco Rodriguez and Roy Nelson during his career.
