Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren remains unsigned to a promotion at the present time.
Askren, a former Olympian, had his contract with Bellator expire after his most recent win. Most feel he could compete in the UFC, but issues with contracts and no-fight clauses have caused issues in the past.
On Thursday, though, Askren made it known he is “cleared” to sign with the UFC – and even added a little stipulation to any contract presented to him.
@danawhite road has been cleared and I'm so confident I will win, if I lose I will fight for free!

Askren has called out UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. It also appears that what Askren is saying is true, as ESPN reported Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney stated much the same.
