ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren was recently positioned right next to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva as he accompanied Anthony Pettis to his title fight.
Askren has been in the news since he left Bellator MMA and declined a contract with the UFC, signing instead to compete in Asia with ONE Championship.
While some might have been unsure of what to do sitting next to a man who could have controlled his fate, the former Olympic wrestler made it an easy bus ride.
“As soon as I sat down, I said, ‘If you’re going to make a proposition to me, the answer is no,'” said Askren, during a recent interview with Submission Radio. “I kind of broke the ice right away, right off the bat.
“Obviously it was kind of awkward so I made the best of a not-so-great situation and kind of had a laugh of it.”
Askren is set to defend his title in April for ONE Championship.
