Bellator Thinking About Potential Heavyweight Super-Fight

Bellator president Scott Coker has strong ties with Fedor Emelianenko from their days together under the Strikeforce banner.

Randy Couture, a former UFC heavyweight champion, is currently signed to a contract with Viacom, which owns and operates Bellator.

Does that mean we could see two of the top heavyweights of all-time compete against one another inside the Bellator cage?

“That’s a fight I personally would love to see, but I just don’t know if it’s going to happen,” Coker said following a recent event (thanks to for the quotes). “Randy? He’s dancing with the stars now. He’s not going to want to fight Fedor now that he’s hanging out with some good-lookin’ girls dancing every night.

“But we’ll see him next. We’ll talk to him and see what he has to say.”

Emelianenko (34-4) retired from MMA in 2012 after finishing Pedro Rizzo via first round knockout. He competed twice for M-1 Global after leaving Strikeforce, and Coker admitted there is ongoing talks between the two sides. The Russian was the final PRIDE heavyweight champion.

“All I can say is that we’re in dialogue with M-1, but that’s all I have to say at this time about that,” he said.

Couture is now 51 years old and 19-11 in his MMA career. He stepped away from the sport in 2011 after losing to Lyoto Machida via knockout.
