Bellator’s Season 9 featherweight tournament is lacking one of the biggest threats in Shahbulat Shamhalaev. The Russian has left the current tournament to deal with his ailing father.
Taking his place opposite Akop Stepanyan will be Justin Wilcox.
Wilcox is a newcomer for Bellator, but did make several appearances for Strikeforce. At 11-5, he will be searching for his first win in over two and a half years.
Stepanyan dropped two featherweight tournaments in the opening bracket. He makes the return to lightweight and looks to improve on a 13-5 record.
Bellator 99’s main card has all the quarterfinal bouts and airs live on Spike TV. It’s on September 13 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA.
