Bellator 143 went down Friday night from the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on Spike TV.
Former two-division Bellator champion Joe Warren earned a decision over LC Davis in the main event. Warren, a former standout wrestler, used that to keep the explosive Davis on the mat for the majority of the 15-minute fight.
“Everything was on that fight. I had to get that win tonight and (LC) Davis was an extremely tough opponent,” Warren said. “I don’t really care who wins the (Marcos) Galvao vs. (Eduardo) Dantas fight, but I will get another shot at the title.”
Kendall Grove ignited the fans, knocking out Joey Beltran in a meeting of former UFC fighters. Grove landed with a right-hand that left Beltran down and out in the third round.
“You can’t get into a firefight with Joey that’s where he made his name. He’s dangerous. I knew if I kept my composure, then eventually the knockout would come and it did,” Grove said. “I was trying to set him up and get him comfortable and once I saw him at the end of my jab I knew it was going to end. I just wish it didn’t have to go until the third round. I want the winner of (Brandon) Halsey and (Rafael) Carvalho.”
In a battle of one-loss featherweights, Emmanuel Sanchez scored a split decision over Henry Corrales. Sanchez improved to 11-1 with the win, while Corrales fell to 12-2.
Vinicius Queiroz kicked off the main card in style, scoring a second round submission victory over Ewerton Teixeira. Queiroz locked up a head-and-arm triangle choke at 4:00 of the round.
Dan Charles, Darrion Caldwell, Jose Flores, John Teixeira, Jared Chaffee, Abdul Razak Alhassan, Amador Ramirez and Steve Garcia all scored early prelim victories.
Charles knocked out former Titan FC heavyweight champion Chase Gormley in the second round, while Caldwell submitted Shawn Bunch in the first.
Teixeira claimed a split decision over Gleristone Santos.
A planned lightweight contest between Ryan Couture and Nick Gonzalez was scrapped on Thursday after Gonzalez missed weight by over 15 pounds.
