An interesting Bellator 137 card took place Friday night from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.
On Friday, middleweight champion Brandon Halsey came in three pounds over, forcing the California Athletic Commission to strip him of his title. Also, the co-main event between Mike Richman and Eduardo Dantas was off after Richman missed weight, before being put back on several hours later.
Halsey was pushed to the fourth round for the first time in his career, but came out in the “championship round” and destroyed Grove. He earned a TKO victory, but still dropped the title.
The Bellator middleweight title will now be vacant, though Halsey will likely compete in a championship match later this year.
The weight difference didn’t bother Dantas, as he controlled Richman and earned a decision victory. Dantas rebounded from a loss in October to Joe Warren that cost him the bantamweight title.
Darrion Caldwell opened the main card with a decision victory over Rafael Silva, while Fernando Gonzales submitted Curtis Millender in the third round with a guillotine choke.
Virgil Zwicker, Jordan Parsons and Joe Taimanglo claimed early prelim wins.
