Bellator 130 took place Friday night from the Kansas Star Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Emanuel Newton listened to the universe, earning a fifth round submission victory over a game Linton Vassell in the main event to retain the Bellator light heavyweight title.
Despite being the better fighter on the feet, Newton continued to take the fight to the ground. He stated in the post-fight interview that “The universe told me I would get a choke. I didn’t think it would be the fifth round, but I got it.”
The co-main event saw Bobby Lashley earn his second win inside the Bellator cage and fifth in a row, stopping Karl Etherington with strikes just 91 seconds into the first round. It was ruled a submission win, the fourth of Lashley’s career, as he connected on 21 of 22 total strikes.
Marloes Coenen ushered in the females on the Spike TV main card, earning a third round submission victory over Annalisa Bucci. Scott Coker, Bellator president, brought back women’s MMA to Bellator earlier this year.
Also, Dave Jansen likely secured a future lightweight title shot by earning a decision over Rick Hawn to start the main card.
In prelim action, Darrion Caldwell scored a decision over Anthony Dizy and Sam Oropeza downed Gary Tapusoa via TKO in the first round.
