To win a Bellator tournament is no easy task. Most consist of fighters competing three times over three months. David Rickels did just that to win the Season 8 lightweight tournament, only to drop the championship fight to Michael Chandler in 44 seconds.
“Michael just struck my chord that night,” said Rickels to Bleacher Report. “A loss puts a really bitter taste in your mouth and redemption is the best word I can come to because I feel like I’m much better than what I got to show that night. I believe in my heart that I’m a top 10 fighter. The road to redemption is long and it starts with J.J. Ambrose.”
Chandler took the win from Rickels at Bellator 97 in late July.
Ambrose is 19-4 and returns to Bellator for the second time this year. He’s a submission pro, taking 11 wins that way.
They’re set for Bellator 103 at the Star Casino in Kansas. It’s today, October 11, and the main card is live on Spike TV.
